4 colourful bird species

Birds come in an array of vibrant and beautiful colours and patterns. Here are our top four colourful bird species.

Eclectus Parrot

These parrots are very charming and intelligent. These birds are known as sexually dimorphism meaning you can tell the difference between a male and female by the colours of their feathers. Males are a stunning emerald green colour with a blend of blue and reds on the belly and near the wings. The female eclectus is a vivid red colour with blues blending under the wings and around the belly and across their neck. The feathers on both the male and female eclectus look like they blend together rather than have distinct lines.

Scarlet Macaw

Considered to be one of the most beautiful parrots in the world the Scarlet Macaw is bright red in colour with yellow and blue on their wings with some Macaws also having a green band where the yellow and blue meet on their wings. Their eyes are surrounded by featherless skin.

Gouldian Finch

This beautiful is a small and beautiful multi coloured bird. The colours that appear on these birds are green, yellow, blue, purple, red and black. They have a bright green back spreading to the top of their wings, a purple breast and yellow belly. They usually have a blue band around their necks. Their heads can either be a combination of red and black, just black or yellow and black.

Blue and Gold Macaw

Is a stunning parrot who in some cases can live up to 50 years. They are mostly blue and gold; they typically have green on their foreheads which fades into a lovely shade of blue which covers their back, tail and wings. Their chest and belly are a bright yellow colour. They have large black beaks and white patches of skin with tiny black feathers surrounding their eyes.
