Here we take a closer look at the Indian Ringneck Parakeet.
Wild Indian Ringneck Parakeets are normally a beautiful lime green colour, however captive breeding programmes have allowed for a range of different vibrant colour variations. These birds can come in shades of yellows, greens, blues, violets and even white. Indian Ringneck Parakeets are known for being excellent talkers. Both males and females have charming voices and the more you talk to them the more they will start to mimic your words, forming a great bond between the two of you.
In the wild their diets consist of dried fruits, vegetables, nuts and berries. Feeding your Indian Ringneck Parakeet a balanced diet of fruit, seeds, pellets, leafy greens and vegetables will be very beneficial to them. Never feed your Parakeet – or any pet bird – chocolate or avocado as this is toxic to them.
They generally have sweet and charming personalities when are the properly cared for, making them a very popular bird pet choice. Though they may not be very affectionate if they have had a caring and socialised upbringing they can develop a friendly companionship with their owners.
If you are thinking of purchasing a bird remember to do your research. Before you decide on which species is right for you please consider factors such as: it’s lifespan, the noise, time, commitment, safety, space, expenses and attention it needs.
