The Working German Shepherd & Dogsport Clubs of Australasia (WGSDCA) was founded in 1992 and dedicated to the German Shepherd as a sound working animal.
With 14 affiliate clubs across Australasia and managed by experienced dog trainers and volunteers, the clubs offer training sessions 2-3 times per week.
Their members have a passion for IGP dogsport (IGP is short for International Prüfung Ordning), an internationally regulated recreational canine sporting activity.
Developed originally for the German Shepherd Dog, the sport helps breeders identify their best breeding candidates.
Today the sport is also enjoyed by people from all paths of life who have a foremost interest in letting their working dog use their natural instincts for the physical and mental welfare of such dogs.
IGP dogs know their ABC: IGP dog sport is the world’s largest canine competition ‘triathlon’ sport and entails: A. tracking (following a scent up to 3 hrs), B. precision obedience, and C. sleeve-work.
Dog owners of all ages and professions enjoy the sport because they have a common interest in interacting with their dogs.
Each year, the WGSDCA fraternity comes together at their annual National Championship which is the qualifying event for the IGP3 World Championship hosted by a country affiliated with the World Union of German Shepherd dogs.
Petcover is a proud sponsor of the 2024 National Championship, May 31st – June 2nd, 2024 at the Hawkesbury Showgrounds, Clarendon, NSW.
“The WGSDCA looks forward to building upon this partnership with Petcover, and we are thankful for their support and sponsorship. “wrote Sanne the president of the WGSDCA.
