2024 DOGS NSW Royal Canin International Spring Fair

A celebration of canine excellence

The DOGS NSW 2024 Royal Canin “100th” International Spring Fair was an unforgettable event that took place over three thrilling days. Their canine excellence was celebrated from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September at the DOGS NSW Grounds at The Bill Spilstead Complex for Canine Affairs in Orchard Hills, Sydney.

A gathering of canine talent

The Spring Fair featured a distinguished panel of eight international judges, with five making their Australian debut. The event spotlighted two key FCI competitions: the FCI CACIB Shows on Friday, introducing new Veteran and Junior CACIBs, and the FCI A20 Shows on Saturday. Both shows awarded FCI certificates to recognized breeds, marking this as a top-tier competition for breeders and handlers alike.

In addition to the FCI shows, Dogs Australia hosted Challenges for All Breeds, which showcased the wide variety of incredible dog breeds in Australia. One of the event’s highlights was Sunday’s Dogs Australia Championship Show, a prestigious Crufts qualifier. Winners of Best in Group (BIG) earned $50 cash prizes, courtesy of Petcover, making the competition even more rewarding.

Sweepstakes, Junior Handlers, and Neuter Competitions

The event also featured a total of nine sweepstakes, with the first-place winners taking home $25, also donated by Petcover. During the lunch breaks, audiences were treated to the Junior Handler competitions, Lady and Gent Handler contests, and the final Top Handler showdown, offering a glimpse into the talent of the next generation of dog handlers.

The Neuter Championship Show, held during the General Specials, celebrated the oft-overlooked neuter dogs, with Petcover generously donating $200 for Best in Show Neuter and $100 for Runner-Up Best in Show Neuter.

This year marked Petcover’s second year as a sponsor of the DOGS NSW Spring Fair. Our team was thrilled to witness over 4,100 entries across the three days—a testament to the event’s scale and significance in the dog show world. We had the opportunity to reconnect with many of our breeder partners, interact with exhibitors, and collaborate closely with the event’s dedicated organisers.

Throughout the weekend, Petcover’s event team had the privilege of watching some of the finest dogs in Australia compete. The diversity of breeds on display was truly remarkable, with standout appearances from Shetland Collies, Maremma Sheepdogs, German Shepherds, Pulik, Welsh Corgis, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Dogue de Bordeaux, Miniature Schnauzers, Shar Peis, and more.

Weathering the storms together

Despite the ominous weather—complete with gale-force winds—the spirit of the competitors remained undaunted. We were in awe of the determination and resilience shown by both the dogs and their handlers, who put their best paws forward regardless of the conditions.
